Huka Lodge, Taupo

Widely regarded as one of the finest retreats in the world, Huka Lodge is renowned for its fine food, unobtrusive service and idyllic location on the banks of the Waikato River, just a short walk from the spectacular Huka Falls. Antique country furniture, roaring log fires and rich warm colours are features of the main lodge building – and a large deck provides comfortable alfresco seating and glorious views. Further outdoor seating – and outdoor fires for those cooler evenings – can be found dotted around the seven acres of beautifully manicured grounds.

Sleep

Luxury and style prevail in the twenty spacious guest rooms, each of which is discreetly positioned along the riverbank with floor-to-ceiling glass windows showcasing the wonderful views. White-washed walls and romantic beds draped with nets create a look that is both refreshing and stylish, and the luxurious bathrooms feature double sinks, separate showers and spa baths which look out on to a small private garden area.

Set away from the main lodge on an elevated promontory above the river and almost completely hidden from view, the beautiful four-bedroom, fourbathroom Owner’s Cottage or Alan Pye Cottage are the perfect retreats for those seeking their own exclusive hideaway.

Eat

Dining at Huka is a wonderful experience. Choose to dine either in the dining room with the other guests, or tucked away in one of the many private dining areas such as the library, the huge wine cellar or outside in the gardens.

Play & Pamper

The lodge has an outdoor swimming pool and spa pools – and croquet, petanque and tennis can all be enjoyed too. Mountain bikes and fishing rods are provided for guests’ use.  The Taupo region is famed for its incredible fishing, and nearby Tongariro National Park is a mountainous wonderland overlooking majestic Lake Taupo. The delightful lakeside town of Taupo is just a short drive away and the geothermal heartland of Rotorua is less than an hour's drive.

A stay at Huka Lodge is all about refined relaxation, but if youre looking for some adventure, take a heli flight north to White Island for a memorable visit to this active marine volcano!
