Family Holidays at Pangkor Laut Resort

Set amidst a two million year old rainforest, this private island is fringed by sweeping sandy bays, emerald waters and is home to a variety of wildlife including long-tailed macaques, oriental pied hornbills, white-bellied sea eagles and large monitor lizards. Sea otters have also been spotted on occasion in the nearby waters. Pangkor Laut Resort is the only resort on the island and welcomes families with older children looking to spend time with each other and the island itself is a natural playground for the kids to explore.

Family Activities

Although there isn’t a specific children’s club as such, there are plenty of activities to enjoy with the kids from jungle treks, tennis, fishing excursions, island hopping and plenty of water-sports (stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, water-skiing, wakeboarding and catamaran sailing). The Batik Hut, the boutique located at Emerald Bay holds regular craft activities including learning how to make towel origami, learning how to make kid’s roti canai and the local tea, teh tarik, sandcastle building and traditional games.

Best Rooms for Families

Garden, Hill and Beach Villas all have a separate day bed which can be made up for one child between 2 and 12 for a small charge (under 2’s are free). If you have two children a few of the Garden Villas interconnect so you would be best to take two rooms. For families with older children the resort has a few Hill Villas that connect but only via the balcony, hence not suitable for those with young children.

Pangkor Laut Resort also has a number of luxury estate villas with anything from two to four bedrooms. Every estate featuring separate living and dining pavilions as well as a private pool with dramatic views across the pristine rainforest. Each comes with a personal butler and you can chose to have all your meals prepared for you in the villa or dine around in the main resort. Ask one of our team for a price – these are certainly worth the upgrade.

Dining for kids

There are plenty of dining options to choose from at Pangkor Laut Resort, from Feast Village with different cooking stations offering a variety of cuisines from international fare to local Malay delicacies, Uncle Lim’s Kitchen featuring delicious Chinese dishes, Royal Bay Beach Club and Chapman’s Bar offering casual dining by the pool and Emerald Bay beach – each of these restaurants has a kids menu offering the usual children’s favourites and a few extra local dishes. Fisherman’s Cove, the island’s seafood restaurant and The Straits, offering private dining and specialising in Thai cuisine, both only allow over 16’s which is perfect if you fancy a night off – arrange a babysitter for the night and enjoy a romantic meal without the kids for a change.
