THE ESSENCE OF KENYA

Capture the true essence of Kenya’s unique people and wildlife on this extraordinary two-centre 7-night journey which begins with a 3-night stay at one of Kenya’s original bush homes, and ends with a classic 4-night safari experience in the world renowned Masai Mara.

  • Lewa Wilderness Safari

    DAYS 1 - 3 LEWA WILDERNESS

Arrive in Nairobi following an overnight flight from the UK and transfer to Wilson airport for your onward domestic flight (via small plane with luggage restrictions of around 15kgs per person) to Lewa Downs. Spectacularly set in Northern Kenya’s acclaimed Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, in the foothills of Mount Kenya, Lewa Wilderness has been the home of the Craig family since 1922, when it began life as a cattle ranch before being converted into a rhino conservation area. It was the first private ranch in Kenya to welcome guests into the family home and still today, an adventure here provides a fascinating insight into life in the bush along with a rare opportunity to meet a family whose parents and grandparents before them settled in this dramatic landscape and lived off the land. You can see wildlife, go horse riding with the backdrop of Mount Kenya, try camel riding or join a Maasai guide on a walk or even a morning run! 'Out-of-Africa' movie fans can take to the skies and fly the wilds of Kenya with Will Craig in his open cockpit yellow bi-plane – the only one in East Africa. Will and Emma Craig, along with the help of their team, proudly provide a very personal and truly memorable safari experience. What's more, as a guest at Lewa Wilderness, you will automatically support the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy which runs one of the most successful rhino protection programmes in Africa and is home to 12% of Kenya’s critically endangered black rhino population. In addition, with less than 3,000 Grevy zebra remaining worldwide, Lewa is also home to the single largest population of Grevy zebra in the world with over 20% of these beautiful animals residing here. Most significantly, Lewa's rich wildlife comprises over 70 different animal species and 350 bird species.

Stay 3 nights at Lewa Wilderness

  • On safari at Ol Seki Hemingways Mara Camp

DAYS 4 - 8 OL SEKI HEMINGWAYS MARA CAMP

From Lewa, you will journey to the world famous Masai Mara (via small domestic plane). Here you can tick off the must-see wildlife whilst enjoying the privileged exclusivity and secluded wilderness of the award-winning private Naboisho Conservancy, which borders the main Mara reserve. Stay at Hemingways Ol Seki Mara Camp, renowned for its prominent elevated setting with far-reaching views over the acacia-dotted plains. Small and exclusive, the camp has eight colonially-styled safari-chic East African tents in muted tones, each with a large outside deck where you can star-gaze long into the night - this is luxurious en-suite glamping at its African best! The tents are low impact structures, camouflaged by the landscape and fashioned for sustainability. The interiors are sleekly kitted out with 'Out of Africa' décor which blends with the beautiful surroundings. Here you can view wildlife without the density of vehicles of the main Mara reserve... and return for a meal under the stars at Ol Seki’s cave below the camp. Sundowners are an African ‘must’ and there’s nowhere better than the Naboisho Conservancy to watch the sun sink on yet another memorable African day as you enjoy a cool glass of G&T!

Stay 4 nights at Ol Seki Hemingways Mara Camp

  • DAY 8

Return to Nairobi's Wilson airport (via domestic flight) and transfer to the international airport to connect with your overnight flight back to the UK.

  • Take me there ....
