For those seeking a Bali away from the crowds

For those seeking a Bali away from the crowds this three centre itinerary combines three of our favourite hideaways, each with its own character and charm, a stunning setting and a chance to observe rural life and on these beautiful islands.

  • Days 1-4 Villa Soori, Bali

Soori Bali is a stunning contemporary hideaway set in a pristine, remote and untouched agricultural region of South West Bali. The small luxury retreat is all about the complete serenity and seclusion of its beautiful location well away from the more developed resorts of South Bali. It is set between a wild and beautiful black sand beach and lush green paddy fields which are framed by the impressive silhouette of Batukaru on the horizon, one of Bali’s lesser known mountains. We recommend the Mountain Pool Villas to maximise your sense of place as they have spectacular views across the paddy fields to the mountains in the distance. If you prefer you can upgrade to an Ocean Pool Villa (ask your consultant for a price).

The 90 minute journey there is part of the experience. As you leave the busy southern beach resorts behind, you’ll drive through local villages and past picturesque rice paddy fields. Alila also offers a choice of varied ‘Journeys by Alila’ crafted specifically for Soori’s unique location to help guests gain a deeper and more meaningful understanding of what defines this beautiful and still untouched part of Bali. Choose from full or half day bespoke experiences which focus on Balinese culture, arts and crafts, spa and wellness and environmentally conscious and educational excursions such as the fantastic ‘All About Rice’ experience.
Soori remains a Turquoise favourite for many reasons. Its location is unusual yet untouched and very beautiful, the villas are sublime, the food and spa are superb and the welcome is warm and intuitive.

Stay: 4 nights in a One Bedroom Mountain View Pool Villa, at Soori Bali, including breakfast.

  • Capella Ubud, Bali - View from across the valley at dawn

    Days 5-7 Capella, Ubud

Today you’ll head inland, driving through unspoiled countryside to the colourful village of Ubud with a beautiful jungle backdrop. Ubud is a must for shoppers, the large market at its heart sells a variety of arts and crafts, including paintings, woven baskets and jewellery.  There are a number of excellent boutiques in the town which specialise in furniture, homewares, antiques etc. Resorts are peppered along the valley walls surrounding this charming town all with spectacular views of terraced rice paddy fields and mountains in the distance. However for this itinerary we have selected Capella Ubud, which is about 15 minutes drive from central Ubud (a complimentary shuttle service is available for guests) in the local village of Keliki, well known for its local artists.

This haven of peace and tranquillity is dramatically set on the side of a steep, unspoiled jungle valley. Just 22 luxurious stand-alone Tented Suites are perched neatly on the hillside, or tucked in the jungle, each with its own private heated infinity pool which overlooks the jungle. Capella have cleverly created a number of special encounters to embrace the gorgeous setting and surrounding countryside around Ubud. Visiting captivating temples, exhilarating waterfalls, rice terraces, walking trails, extensive culinary charms, artisanal crafts, farmer’s markets and plantations. Their ‘Capella Personal Assistants’ can design a bespoke itinerary according to your desired pace and interests.

Stay: 4 nights in a Terrace Retreat at Capella Ubud, including breakfast.

  • Days 6-14 Hotel Tugu Lombok

Transfer to Pandangbai in Eastern Bali where you’ll be whisked across the Bali Sea by scheduled speedboat boat (1 ½ hours) to nearby Lombok, an extremely rural island with far fewer inhabitants (and tourists) than Bali. Most of the population are farmers or fisherman who still live simple lives using very traditional farming methods. The main highlight of Lombok is the beaches which are beautiful and unspoilt with just a handful of small boutique resorts with wonderful beachfront settings.

Hotel Tugu Lombok is set on the undeveloped northwest coast of the island and is surrounded by empty green fields, plantations, small traditional villages and virgin landscapes. This is rural Lombok at its most beautiful where local life continues the way it has done for centuries.

Stay: 6 nights in a Bhagavat Gita at Hotel Tugu Lombok, including breakfast.

This resort is rather unusual and not for everyone but that’s what we love about it. It is quirky and individual, showcasing hundreds of original, beautiful artworks and antiques painstakingly collected and assembled as a loving testament to the long forgotten, original culture of the isle of Lombok. This detail is also reflected in the design of every part of the resort, from the bungalows and villas to the lobby, restaurant and the striking spa. It is all achieved without compromising on modern creature comforts and luxuries, fantastic cuisine and excellent service.

The resort itself is located on the stunning Sire beach, with miles and miles of deserted pristine white sand facing the sunrise and breath-taking views to magnificent Mt Rinjani. One thing that stands out about this resort is the amount of space, the beautiful gardens, the amazing beach and the hidden little corners of the resort where you can arrange a romantic meal. It is definitely one worth trying for top class hospitality and a unique take on Indonesian culture. We recommend staying in the Bhagavat Gita suite with private large plunge pools directly overlooking onto the ocean and beautiful beachfront.

  • Take me there

Prices from £3960 per person low season (Apr - June and Sep - Oct) or £4395 high season (July- August). Including 4 nights at Soori Bali in a One Bedroom Mountain View Pool Villa, including breakfast, 4 nights at Capella Ubud in a Terrace Retreat, including breakfast and 6 nights at Hotel Tugu Lombok in a Bhagavat Gita suite including breakfast. Private transfers, Gilicat launch from Bali to Lombok and international flights.

If Hotel Tugu is not for you and you would prefer to stay in a full service resort we also love the Oberoi Lombok – from an extra £47 per person in an Ocean View Pavilion. Or alternatively for a rustic but more traditional stay consider Jeeva Klui which would be approx £760 less per person in a Ananda Pura Ocean View Room.
