Luxury Family Holidays in October

It’s the last half term of the year and a long haul family holiday in October is almost the only way of enjoying some late summer or early winter sunshine.  Make the most of the dry season in Kenya. Head to one of the magical and eclectic family friendly safari lodges where your guides will take the family horse riding, on walking safaris and game drives, and even sleep outs under the stars – giving all the family a glimpse into the true heart of Africa.

October is one of the most idyllic months of the year in which to visit The Seychelles, and your family holiday can have an added bonus for children will be the chance to witness the turtle-nestling season when endangered hawksbill and green turtles lay their eggs. Fiji will just be heading into its shoulder season, when prices fall but the weather is still lovely, so a great option for those with pre-school age children.  Less far to travel but for an equally bewitching family holiday is the Sultanate of Oman, just a short distance from Dubai but with fewer visitors and stunning beaches. The entire family will fall in love with the Six Senses Zighy Bay.

Our Top Family Hotels & Resorts

  • Long Beach

The aptly named Long Beach is situated on the stunning east coast of Mauritius, on the longest and widest stretch of white sand coastline of any Mauritian resort. This newest member of Sun Resorts is a sister property to Sugar Beach and La Pirogue.

  • St Regis Mauritius Resort

Opened in late 2012,  St Regis is located on the serene south-west coast of Mauritius on the idyllic white sands of the Le Morne beach and is encircled by the calm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

  • Elephant Hills Tented Jungle Camps

Inspired by the African safari camps Elephant Hills is the first luxury camp of its kind in Thailand. Set in two locations – the original camp has 30 tents in a stunning position with expansive views of the jungle and river below, while the Rainforest Camp offers 10 tents set on a floating platform on Cheow Larn Lake – for the ultimate experience we recommend a night in each.

  • The Slate (Formerly Indigo Pearl), Phuket

Located on the island of Phuket, just ten minutes from the airport, the award-winning The Slate is just minutes from the white sands of Nai Yang Beach. Designed by Bensley Design Studios and inspired by Phuket’s tin mining past, The Slate’s architecture and décor combines mining themes with Thai chic giving the resort a truly unique, quirky and fun feel.

  • Melati Beach Resort & Spa

Melati Beach Resort is another Turquoise favourite, perfect for both couples and families it’s certainly one of Koh Samui’s hidden gems. It enjoys a secluded beachfront setting at unspoiled Thongson Bay on Samui’s northern-most tip, just 10 minutes from the airport and within easy reach of the island’s lively Chaweng Beach area as well as the renowned Bo Phut Fisherman’s Village, with its many shops and restaurants. Koh Samui (Thailand’s third largest island and one of its original island destinations) is located in the Gulf of Thailand, off the country’s east coast, and is easily accessible via direct flights from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

  • Six Senses Zighy Bay

With an almost biblical location on the Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman, Six Senses Zighy Bay is flanked by the rugged Hajar Mountains and the azure, crystalline waters of Zighy Bay. This is remote with a capital R, however access is actually very easy with flights into Dubai’s state-of-the-art airport followed by a two hour road transfer. A dramatic 4x4 drive down into the bay is how most guests choose to arrive or perhaps the idea of a 15 minute speedboat ride from the nearby port is more appealing. For thrill seekers who are after a truly ‘Bond-esque’ sense of arrival, why not paraglide in across the bay!
