So-Cal Dreaming

Southern California, or So-Cal as it’s affectionately known, is the destination of your dreams if you’re looking for prize-winning sunshine hours, a laid-back ‘can do’ approach to life and an energetic spirit. So-Cal rewards its visitors with a sun-kissed, palm tree laden and visually spectacular experience, alongside luxurious retreats, fabulous beaches, cosmopolitan living and plenty of road trip fun along the way. This suggested one week journey takes you from sunny San Diego to the desert heat of Palm Springs and ends back on the coast in Los Angeles, and combines perfectly with a relaxing week on a beach in the South Pacific islands of Tahiti, Fiji or the Cook Islands – all just a direct flight from Los Angeles.

  • San Diego

    Days 1-3 San Diego

Arriving into California’s southernmost major city you’ll understand why the locals are relaxed and friendly. Unlike its more frenetic So-Cal neighbour to the north, San Diego exudes a tangible sense of cheerful calm, a place where the sparkling ocean is your playground, where surfers ride a wave after a day in the office, where the worldwide craft beer trend has seen over 120 breweries pop up in recent years, and where you’ll find a theme park, zoo, water park or aquarium to keep people of all ages busy for weeks. Spend 3 nights at Tower 23 right on the beach and just minutes from downtown San Diego.

Stay: 3 nights at Tower 23, room only

  • Palm Springs

    Days 4-5 Palm Springs

Collect your car and drive north-east into California’s dramatic desert landscape to Hollywood’s playground, Palm Springs. When filming a movie, actors had to adhere to the ‘two-hour rule’ whereby they must be back in the studio within two hours when required… and as Palm Springs is two hours from LA, with 350 sunshine days a year, it became the place to be seen amongst the Hollywood elite. Today, it remains a glamourous destination with chic, laid-back desert vibe. You’ll find it hard to leave the poolside of your hideaway for the next 2 nights, Parker Palm Springs, but if you manage to drag yourself away, we highly recommend taking the Aerial Tramway up to the alpine heights above the desert, joining a jeep safari to the San Andreas Fault or the Salton Sea or driving out to Joshua Tree National Park.

Stay: 2 nights at Parker Palm Springs, room only.

Distance from San Diego: 140 miles / Driving time: 2 hours 30 minutes

    Days 6-7 Los Angeles

After soaking up the desert heat and one too many cocktails by the pool at the Parker, it’s time to head to the bright lights of the City of Angels, LA, just a couple of hours away. Spot the infamous Hollywood sign as you drive into the city, then head to your LA retreat for your two night stay – The London West Hollywood, just off Sunset Boulevard. We suggest heading straight up to the rooftop pool to check out the incredible views across the city, out to the ocean and up into the Hollywood hills before taking a stroll along Sunset Boulevard where you’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance from The London WeHo (as the locals say).

Stay: 2 nights at The London West Hollywood, including breakfast.

Distance from Palm Springs: 120 miles / Driving time: 2 hours

  • Take Me There

Prices from £1795 per person based on two travelling together, including 7 nights accommodation and car hire as stated above and international flights into San Diego and out of Los Angeles.
