From the beginning Turquoise were very helpful, we'd selected a destination and knew one of the two hotels we wanted to stay in and so asked a couple of agencies for quotes. Turquoise were the only people who knew enough about the destinations to actually give us recommendations based on more than price.
Baros was a fantastic destination. From the moment we got off the plane we were greeted by staff and escorted to the island. Check in was seamless, polite and helpful, and whilst we didn't need much from the staff, they were always avaliable.
The clientelle were couples - either honeymooners or older couples. Everyone was courteous and whilst we were invited to mingling event during the stay it was very low key with delicious food and drink.
We'd definitely recommend the guided night snorkel on the reef, and also the lighthouse - both restaurant and bar (but book the restaurant asap on arrival onto the island!) we had an absolutely delicious tasting menu. Watch out for the price of a night in the buffet restaurant if you have booked full/half board (we elected not to as we planned to eat in the better restaurants more often and half board etc wouldn't have been cheaper) as it's more expensive than most the 'nicer' restaurants.
Another thing we loved about Baros was that we were always addressed as Mr & Mrs X by the staff, even the ones we hadn't met before. It was a wonderful small hotel feel.
Huvafen Fushi was amazing as well - there were always things to do.
Guided snorkels here were stunning and we were lucky to go on a trip on the Dhoni as it wasn't otherwise in use to see the reefs further afield. The snorkel gear was better quality here.
Huvafen had amazing food - our honeymoon dinner was delicious, as was a lobster bbq but to really take the cake was a Vinuum dinner - in the underground wine cellar.
There we had the most amazing meal we have ever had with introductions on the food and wine from the sommelier and head chef. The quality was stunning and the evening felt more like a dinner party than a restaurant meal, with a real opportunity to get to know more about the island and the Maldives.
One thing I disliked about Huvafen were the number of children. A lot of things were aimed at romantic couples and there were often children playing in the background.

Yes it was a fabulous holiday - I have already fed back to Sue Friell who organised it for us. Please refer to her.

Amazing is a word I've used far too often since our return from Vietnam - but I must repeat myself: our holiday in Vietnam (3 weeks) was amazing from start to finish. Having researched several travel companies, it was only Turquoise (Catherine)who was able to package everything the way we wanted.
It was the exact mix of luxury (Six Senses), hard work (trekking in SaPa), history and culture that we'd imagined.
The Metropole in Hanoi evoked the 30's, the French, and every Graham Greene novel I've ever read! Our guide was enthusiastic, intelligent, and keen to show us special places. Our meeting with historian Huu Ngoc was an exceptional privilege and is the highlight of the trip for me.
From SaPa our young guide,Chai, of the Black H'mong minority, walked us through the most remote villages - and somehow managed to smile her way into getting us invitations for tea everywhere! We were often nose to nose with water buffalo, and feel we've met thousands of children. Chai always managed to feed us - her backpack always had cold water and lunch. Our homestay was very special - a lovely family who had so little but shared everything. I'd definitely recommend this to any traveller. The life of the Minority peoples takes you back centuries.
Hue was our taste of real imperial history, and again our dinner with the descendants of the last emperor was a unique occasion. We were able to see personal photos and documents relating to the family. La Residence was perhaps the best hotel of our stay; our suite, with its balcony and view of the Perfume River, was stunning and the staff exceptional.
Six Senses - well what can you say? Turquoise seas, infinity pool, champagne on ice greeting AND monkey in the outside shower! Wish we could have stayed a week!
Saigon - so glad we chose the Majestic Hotel - it's riverside location gives you an immediate sense of the city. A real buzz. Our guide and driver here were so good - intelligent, sensitive, professional - with ice cold water always to hand! (It was hot!). Our day trip to the tunnels and the tour of the War Remnants Museum were reminders of what the Vietnamese people have endured, with incredible strength.
Then the Bassac cruise. A real fun way to end our holiday - the chaos of boats full of cabbages, coconuts, pineapples. Brilliant colours and delicious sampling.
A brief mention of two disappointments: the Halong Bay cruise - it really wasn't as detailed. The boat departed late; the dinner was in a cave not on the boat; we didn't stop at Titov Island and didn't have an opportunity for a swim. We felt rushed all the time and really had no time to enjoy our beautiful room! Alas.
Hoi An itself was a surprise...in-your-face commercialism. Sad. We had expected to have dinner in an ancient long house, but our guide told us that this was not possible as the owner was no longer doing this (he'd rented the house out?). Anyhow our guide insisted we have a meal at a restaurant in Hoi An. We really didn't want to - the point wasn't the food, but the house we were interested in seeing. But our guide was so insistent we went to this restaurant and had a meal we really didn't enjoy. We told him we'd just make our own plans, but he seemed intent on ticking the box that he had fed us. So a disappointment that became an annoyance.
I only mention these last two things so you know. They were really very minor and our delight with our trip can only accurately be assessed by seeing the smiles still on our faces!! Many thanks to you and especially to Catherine.
