Fascinating Mekong Delta cruise
Since the life of the local people in the Delta is almost entirely river-based, one of the best ways to explore the region and to experience the lifestyle of its inhabitants is by boat. There are three beautiful wooden Bassac boats, one with 6 cabins and the other two with 12 cabins each. Accommodation is cosy but comfortable with dark wooden décor and simple furnishings. All cabins feature air-conditioning and have private en suite bathrooms with a 'wet-room' style shower. From Saigon journey south to the Delta town of Cai Be, around a 3 hour drive, where you are warmly welcomed on board the Bassac. Enjoy a delicious lunch as you start the cruise. In the afternoon there is an opportunity to explore one of the local villages, before returning to the boat for a sunset cocktail prior to enjoying a traditional Vietnamese dinner served on board. After that a spot of relaxed star gazing is a must! An early start the following morning means guests can make the most of the dawn floating market at Cai Rang before returning to Saigon. The market is full of boats of different sizes selling their wares, usually advertised by a sample of produce on the end of a long stick. Bassac guests board small sampans in order to get into the thick of the market and have the opportunity to buy some fresh fruit if they wish. This cruise into the Mekong Delta region is truly an unmissable experience and without doubt a photographer's dream.
