Six Senses Con Dao is just a 45 minute flight from the fast pace of Saigon, set off the south-east coast of mainland Vietnam on the small untouched island of Con Son which is the largest of a group of islands making up the Con Dao archipelago. Located on a beautiful, long sweeping stretch of pristine white sand beach that curves subtly within the arc of a secluded bay, this delightfully rustic yet luxurious retreat is one of Vietnam's best beach resorts and works perfectly as a destination in its own right or at the end of a tailor-made itinerary through Vietnam. More than 80% of the archipelago is marine and national park making it a real tropical idyll.
Having won awards for innovative construction and design almost immediately after opening in 2010, Six Senses Con Dao has just 50 private pool villas each built in true Six Senses style utilising local natural materials from sustainable sources. The architecture is contemporary and incorporates panels of reclaimed teak from Vietnam’s interior, complementing the beautiful surroundings perfectly. The villas are cleverly designed too, so that the need for air conditioning is reduced thanks to natural ventilation. All the villas face the ocean and are either set on the beach or close to the beach and come with a terrace and private plunge pool, offering spectacular views of the South China Sea. Built into the rustic yet luxurious surroundings guests can find all the technology they might need to further add to the experience with the addition of TVs, DVD players, Bose music system and iPod docks.
The heart of Six Senses Con Dao is its Vietnamese kitchen, known as Vietnamese by the Market. Led by Ms Len, a team of talented cooks prepare authentic Vietnamese delicacies over charcoal flames or in wood fired ovens. Noodles, rice, soups, rolls and wraps are all made to order and if you want to learn how to cook Vietnamese style, then join in one of the kitchens daily cooking classes. Other dining options include Deli’cious, perfect for snacks and light lunches and By the Beach, the resorts main restaurant offering freshly caught seafood, fruit and vegetables bursting with flavour based on traditional Vietnamese recipes with a subtle French influence, an irresistible combination. In villa dining can be arranged or why not try destination dining for romantic picnics on deserted beaches!
Activities abound at Con Dao with a wide range of watersports which take advantage of the wide, flat sandy beach. Diving and snorkelling is some of the best in Vietnam with 1,300 species of marine life in the archipelago including rare dugongs and sea turtles which nest on the surrounding beaches. Hiking and cycling round the island is popular and Con Dao has some interesting merchant history and local culture to discover.
No stay at a Six Senses hideaway is complete without a visit to a Six Senses signature spa. Surrounded by tropical gardens with the dramatic backdrop of the Lo Voi Mountain; choose from a wide variety of holistic treatments carefully designed to pamper, heal, relax and rejuvenate. Only ethically produced spa products derived from local herbs and flower essences are used. We recommend one of the Six Senses SLOW LIFE treatments – a delectable 3 hour and 20 minute indulgent Vietnamese journey.
