Step into the real rural Thailand, just a stonesthrow from Bangkok

It is hard to believe that such unspoiled and rural scenery can be found so close to the buzzing modern metropolis that is Bangkok. For those who have already discovered the city’s main sights or for those who really prefer the country at heart, this is a chance to see a side of Thailand which has remained practically unchanged for centuries.

You will explore some of the rarely visited klongs or canals which surround Bangkok, passing by farmyards, villages, fields and orchards. Stop to visit an agricultural cooperative managed by a group of hard working women who make an array of local delicacies and produce simple handicrafts before taking a short tuk-tuk ride to an old traditional Thai house to see rare orchids.

Continue onto Koh Kret, a rustic and peaceful island home to one of Thailand’s oldest Mon settlements and renowned for its Mon style pottery. Visit Wat Paramai Yikawat, which houses a distinct Mon-style marble Buddha and a pottery village, one of the oldest and largest earthenware making sources in the region. Return to the bright lights and big city this evening.
