One of Zanzibar's newest luxury all-villa retreats, Baraza is wonderfully located on the south eastern coast of the island of Zanzibar, on Bwejuu Beach, recently voted by Conde Nast as one of the top 30 island beaches in the world. It is the latest addition to the portfolio of Zanzibar hotels which also includes neighbouring sister properties – Breezes and The Palms. A fusion of Swahili, Arabic and Indian designs with magnificent arches, intricate hand-carved stucco decor, hand-made furniture, textured fabrics and ornate brass lanterns, Baraza evokes the heritage of Zanzibar dating back to the era of the Sultans. Baraza benches, often simply called 'Barazas’, have long been a focal point of community life in Zanzibar and still today, every urban Baraza is lined with people chatting or simply idling away the day on the smooth warm stone. Each of the 30 villas has been designed to characterise classic Swahili architecture and each boasts its own private plunge pool. The 14 one bedroom villas are split into two categories - ocean front and ocean view - whilst the 15 two bedroom villas enjoy sea facing or garden views. For the ultimate indulgence, there is also a two bedroom ocean front Presidential Villa. The cuisine in Baraza's two restaurants and Sheesha Bar reflects the eclectic mix of the island - fresh local flavours with an innovative twist - and all meals (and local beverages) are included. Baraza’s captivating and exotic elegance is complemented by a wide variety of facilities including the wonderful Spa with lap pool, a swimming pool, a tennis court, yoga and fitness centre and a watersports centre. Families are especially welcome at Baraza.
