Colombo

A coastal city and the heart of Sri Lanka’s commercial district, Colombo is a heady mix of sites, smells, history, heritage and culture. For those arriving late or leaving early, there are a number of brilliant hotels, both in and out of town, for you to break the journey. If time permits, set aside a day or two to explore this port city  and the wonderful array of things to see and do.

Don’t miss

  • Colombo Walking Tour with Mark Forbes. A personalised city tour with the expert on all things Colombo. Choose from a variety of routes which are sure to engage all your senses! We suggest choosing a route which includes Fort area and The Pettah markets
  • Galle Face Green. A coastal parkland and promenade – a popular spot for families to get together at the weekend. Find a shady spot and soak up local life at it's best.
  • The Gallery Café. A restaurant in the former offices of Geoffrey Bawa, one of Sri Lanka's best known architects.
  • The Dutch Hospital & Independence Arcade. Two beautifully renovated colonial buildings now home to a variety of shops, restaurants and bars.
  • Odel, Barefoot, Paradise Road. Our top three favourite shops in Colombo! Hand made artifacts, lovely mementos and colourful Sri Lankan homeware.
  • Mount Lavinia Beach. Being right on the west coast of Sri Lanka, Colombo boasts a number of beaches - the best stretch being Mount Lavinia.
