Unique train safari
Rovos Rail, also known as the ‘Pride of Africa’, hasrenewed the golden age of train travel enabling you to enjoy a unique train safari through some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa. Rovos Rail operates two beautifully restored trains of 20 carriages each which are drawn by a combination of steam, diesel and electric locomotives over the various stages of the journey. Carrying a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites, accommodation on board is of the highest standard, combining the romance and opulence of the pioneering days with modern innovations. Choose between the new Pullman Suites, the Deluxe Suites (picture 2) or the more spacious Royal Suites (picture 3), all of which are immaculately appointed with glistening paintwork, period Edwardian features, acres of polished wood and Egyptian cotton sheets. The Royal Suites, each of which take up half a carriage, are spacious and elegant – and each has its own private lounge and bathroom with Victorian bath and separate shower. The Deluxe Suites also boast both a lounge area and ensuite with a shower only. The newly introduced Pullman Suites offer an identical ensuite facility to that of the Deluxe Suites, although the bedroom is smaller with a bunk bed for twin requirements or a double bed for couples (during the day, either of these can be converted into a comfortable sofa). Whether you’re enjoying the superb gourmet cuisine accompanied by the finest of South African wines or getting to know your fellow passengers over a drink, your time on the train will pass all too quickly! In a series of journeys lasting from 24 hours to a fortnight, the Pride of Africa links some of Africa's greatest destinations. Journeys include the popular route between Cape Town and Pretoria, as well as those further afield to Victoria Falls, the Garden Route, the Kruger National Park, Namibia and Durban – notwithstanding the epic journey between Cape Town and Dar es Salaam. The shorter journeys can easily be slotted into your itinerary, whilst the longer journeys, which depart less frequently, tend to form the pivotal basis of an extended trip. Please call us for full descriptions and further details on the specific departure dates and itineraries. Cape Town – Pretoria (and vice versa) This is a 2 night journey with off-train excursions in both Matjiesfontein (a quaint Victorian village in the Central Karoo) – and Kimberley, an historic diamond rush city where you will visit the Big Hole. Pretoria – Victoria Falls (and vice versa) This nostalgic 2 night adventure crosses the Tropic of Capricorn before heading into Zimbabwe. An early morning game drive in the Hwange Game Reserve is included and the journey ends at the breathtaking Victoria Falls.
