Lion Sands

Situated in the southern region of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Lion Sands is the only lodge to enjoy exclusive access to the perennial Sabie River which boasts an awesome diversity of wildlife year round.

There are two fabulous lodges at Lion Sands – the utterly indulgent and exclusive Ivory Lodge (pictures 1-3) – and the acclaimed, well-established River Lodge (pictures 4-5). Ivory Lodge provides an intimate ambience for a maximum of 12 guests in six lavish suites with magnificent views over the river. Each boasts a private courtyard, viewing deck and a plunge pool. Simple and uncluttered, the bold interiors ooze a striking and contemporary Afro- European elegance.

River Lodge is built on the banks of the Sabie River and faces due east, catching the sun as it rises. The 18 stylish thatched rooms are set below a canopy of 800-year old trees – and each has a private viewing deck. Activities include game drives, bush walks, wildlife lectures, astronomy talks and full moon walks. River Lodge has a swimming pool with an uninterrupted view of the river, a gym and the 'Lalamuka' Health Spa (the Shangaan word for 'unwind').

Breakfast is an 'African bush affair' set on one of the open plains or at the river hide, whilst for dinner – your table will be lit with only paraffin lamps and the light from the open campfire.

Lion Sands also offer guests a choice of two unique Tree House experiences (picture 6). Built high up in a Jackalberry or Leadwood tree, this is a 'must' for those seeking a romantic 'Out of Africa' night under the stars!
