South African Airways and British Airways have daily flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town. Fares start at £660 including all taxes and surcharges: however both airlines do have special offers available throughout the year so it it worth checking with one of our Sales Consultants.

When Maarten and Carla decided to leave Holland and move to South Africa, they scoured the land to find a property that was ‘just right’ – and from the moment they popped their heads through the elegant black gates of Bloom Estate, they knew their search was over!

In a setting brimming with old Cape Dutch architecture, Bloom Estate is a breath of fresh air – its modern style of clean lines and simple décor sets it apart from the rest! The landscaped gardens and minimalist yet immaculately decorated rooms, have graced the pages of numerous lifestyle and interior design magazines. Swellendam is perfect as either a well-positioned stopover between Cape Town and the Garden Route – or a longer visit if you wish to explore Cape Agulhas and the quaint seaside village of Arniston.

Named after the seasons and elements, each of the seven garden rooms boasts a flat-screen TV, i-pod station and French doors which lead out to the pool. Splashes of white and grey complement the sleek Phillipe Starck furniture creating a fresh concept, which is both inviting and functional. A recent enhancement at Bloom Estate is the sun-drenched guest lounge which spills out onto a wide terrace with captivating views.

Breakfast is served in the airy breakfast room and for dinner, your hosts will gladly recommend one of the excellent local restaurants.

The town’s 18th century Drostdy museum and historic Cape Dutch buildings provide an insight into the lives of the early settlers and are certainly worth exploring.

A rural idyll with a contemporary twist, Bloom Estate gives new meaning to ‘understated luxury’.
