The beautifully appointed Victorian guesthouse of Welgelegen stands at the foot of Table Mountain, and like Cape Cadogan, it is also located in the historic suburb of 'Gardens'. The hotel itself actually incorporates two lovingly restored turn-of-the-century houses, linked by a lovely courtyard and small plunge pool – and the décor is a soothing mix of modern, Victorian and African themes. Welgelegen – Dutch for ‘beautifully situated’ – is perfectly placed on a quiet lane, just a two-minute stroll from trendy Kloof Street, known for its many restaurants, designer boutiques, hip new bars and Cape Town’s best coffee shops. Designed in a quirky yet contemporary style, the interior combines old world charm and romance with a soft modern edge – family heirlooms, muslin mosquito nets, spiral staircases, white door-frames and Juliet balconies are signature features. Scattered with serene corners and coves, the bedrooms boast bold designs and neutral tones, whilst the secluded courtyard and stylish lounge are perfect for idling away the hours! Enjoy a breakfast of deliciously decadent French toast in the poolside courtyard, and experience the grandeur of Table Mountain overhead. The staff are known for their candid, local advice and will gladly help you plan your day. Grace Cottage, which is located across the road from the main house, is a beautiful Victorian cottage renovated by one of Cape Town's top architects. The cottage is self-contained with two ensuite bedrooms, an open plan living room, fully equipped kitchen and a private patio – a peaceful hideaway for families or couples.
