There is an alluring seductiveness about the ‘new look’ Kensington Place which is hard to find elsewhere in Cape Town. Situated on the slopes of Table Mountain, in the exclusive residential suburb of Higgovale, ‘KP’ was the first boutique establishment in the city – and following a stylish makeover by its visionary owner Chris Weir, it has recently been transformed into an ultra-chic retreat. A sense of opulence pervades in each of the eight intimate, individually decorated suites – all of which boast a private balcony or terrace with magnificent views overlooking the harbour, city or mountain. The room interiors are a striking blend of African chic and contemporary European décor, with deluxe fabrics, earthy tones and fine finishes throughout. This exquisite detail extends even further – with original South African art adorning the walls and tasselled floor-length curtains gracing the windows to create an overall look of understated elegance. All of these fashionable furnishings are naturally complemented by a range of modern amenities including a large flat screen TV, iPod docking station, laptop with complimentary wireless connection, skype phone and a bar fridge stocked with mineral water and champagne – all the real necessities in life! The ultra-modern bathrooms offer a sensuous experience with custom-made sunken baths, power showers, sleek minimalist chrome fittings, an array of Molton Brown goodies and enormous fluffy bath sheets in which to ensconce yourself afterwards! A beautiful 'home away from home', Kensington Place offers intimacy and privacy with warm genuine hospitality and comforting luxuries. The service here is impeccable and you will be made to feel welcome from the moment you step into the sumptuous hallway which is decorated with fresh flowers and scented candles. Wake up in a supremely comfortable bed and watch the sunrise over Table Bay before indulging in a gourmet breakfast on your private terrace – or on the patio overlooking the tranquil garden. Sasha, your endearing host, is a ‘fountain of knowledge’ when it comes to city dining and she will gladly share a few 'local' secrets – from the best restaurants to the gems of designer shops. The ‘Moroccan-inspired’ lounge, overlooking the pool, is the perfect venue for pre-dinner drinks, before taking a stroll down Kloof Street to explore some of Cape Town’s ‘hippest’ bars and restaurants. There is always a smiling soul on hand to rustle up a midnight sandwich or to mix a cocktail – and one of our all-time favourite features of this delightful city sanctuary, is that breakfast is served all day! So much more than just a ‘cool’ hotel, this is a place where your needs are the main concern and where design and comfort blend effortlessly. Kensington Place has graced the pages of international lifestyle and travel magazines – and is, quite simply, a stunning little gem.
