Siargao

Siargao is a small teardrop-shaped island 800 kilometers south of Manila at the northeastern tip of Mindanao in the east of The Philippines. This is a remote, totally under-the-radar nature lover’s paradise, traditionally known as the surfing capital of the Philippines with its strong swells, particularly in September. Beyond the surf it has plenty to offer from pristine, quiet beaches, exotic wildlife, coral reefs, secluded natural pools, underground caves, world-renowned sport fishing and diving, exquisite seafood, lively nightlife and more.

This island really is somewhere to consider if you are looking to get away from it all and immerse yourself in nature. We only offer one resort in the region – Dedon Island, an intimate barefoot retreat, hosting up to just 18 people at a time. With so few people you almost have the place to yourselves and are welcomed as family. The resort is completely all-inclusive and your stay is tailored to your every need from cocktails to bespoke menus, surfing lessons to spa therapies.

Surfing and surf culture shape Siargao's modern identity, which is characterised by a laid-back attitude and a deep connection to nature. The colorful scene around Cloud 9, the nearby village with plenty of restaurants and bars, is made up of locals and people from around the world (many of whom run businesses in the area) who have traded the lives they knew for a tropical dream.

Down the Pacific Coast, you'll find tranquil beaches lined with fishing boats and lesser-known surf breaks, many of which are cherished secrets of the local surfing community. Double outrigger canoes are found around the world, from Indonesia to Hawaii. The local version is called a "banca" and you'll see these boats used for fishing and transport around the island.

Going off the beaten track is one of the best ways to get a sense of the island's wild character, from jungle to wetlands, farmland to inland hills. Winding roads that pass by rustic village lead you to Magpupungko, where you'll find dramatic rock formations and warm turquoise pools enclosed by a coral shelf at low tide. Siargao can be circumnavigated in less than a day, giving you ample time to explore the island.
