The Lodge at 199

Newly opened in November 2005, this stylish and intimate retreat enjoys a serene setting on beautiful Lake Tarawera, surrounded by bush-clad hills and close to Rotorua’s famous green and blue lakes.

There are just three suites in total – so personal service is assured! Two of the suites directly face the lake, whilst the other has views of the garden. All of the suites are elegantly furnished with luxurious fabrics, rich colours and creature comforts including flat screen TVs, DVD and CD players –and all are always thoughtfully stocked by the hosts with homemade cookies and fudge, in readiness for your arrival.

The cosy guest lounge and extensive deck in front of the lodge are great places to curl up with a book and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Lake Tarawera, which is just a 20 minute drive from the centre of Rotorua.

The Lodge at 199 is available on either a ‘Bed and Breakfast’ or ‘Dinner, Bed and Breakfast’ basis –and we highly recommend opting for the latter as cuisine is an important part of the 199 experience, with a strong emphasis on locally grown produce and native plants and herbs from the bush.

Kayaks and mountain bikes are provided for guests’ use and a variety of excursions can be arranged, including private trout fishing charters on the lake and exhilarating float plane trips from the lodge’s jetty! We can also highly recommend a day with our unique Maori guide – Roger – a larger than life character who will provide a fascinating insight into Rotorua's history, its Maori culture and of course, its famous geothermal activity.
