Beautifully decorated with high-quality furnishings and a careful eye for detail, the cottage benefits from two queen-size bedrooms, two bathrooms (one of which has a shower and the other a cast iron bath), a living room and kitchen. French doors from the living area open onto the pretty cottage garden, where you can enjoy outdoor seating, a barbecue, and views towards the lake and vines – the perfect spot for a cool glass of local Sauvignon Blanc! Owners Sylvia and Lex live nearby and deliver continental breakfast provisions each morning.

Marlborough (New Zealand's largest wine growing region) is saluted for its Sauvignon Blanc –although its cool climate Pinot Noir and fine Rieslings also win international praise. There are more than 40 wineries within a ten mile radius of Blenheim and these include the iconic Cloudy Bay Winery and the renowned Spy Valley Vineyard. Sheltered by spectacular high country to the west, south and in some areas to the east, Marlborough is one of the country's sunniest and driest regions –with hot summers and crisp winters. This abundant daily sunshine combined with cool nights, fertile soils and a long growing season has helped to maintain the zesty fruit flavours for which this famous wine region has become so renowned.

Vineyards aside, however, Blenheim has some lovely local craft shops and gourmet food producers, whilst just north, the beautiful shores of the Marlborough Sounds are also worth exploring.
