Located in the heart of the Cloudy Bay wine district and only a short drive from Blenheim, these characterful cottages enjoy a rural vineyard outlook. St Leonards consists of five lovingly restored, fully self-contained cottages, each in its own private setting amongst five acres of gardens and trees - our favourites are the Woolshed and the Stables.

The Woolshed (pictured) has recently been totally rebuilt from the original woolshed (where the sheep were shorn in the past). During the renovation, recycled materials were used to maintain the original character of the building. You can still see old tally numbers, for the numbers of sheep shorn on the back of the front door. This unique retreat features two separate bedrooms (one with a queen sized bed, the other with two singles), and is ideal for couples or families, with its large open plan lounge and kitchen area complete with an open fire. Enjoy the large deck area with a BBQ allowing views to the north over the neighbouring Wither Hills vineyards to the Richmond Ranges. The Woolshed also features an outside, private bath under a weeping willow for those romantic occasions.

The Stables is another wonderful retreat, renovated from the original stables for the property, tucked away from the main homestead in a romantic private setting, perfect for a couple. The Stables is fully self-contained with a queen sized bed, small kitchen and potbelly stove for warmth in the winter. There is a patio area with a BBQ, and French doors open onto a private garden area. Another feature is the stunning, typically New Zealand view over the old lemon grove, the vineyard and the hills to the south.

Paul and Daphne, who live in the main homestead, are on hand to offer plenty of local advice on what to do and see. Alternatively, wander through the gardens, pick seasonal fruit and meet their pets and animals, enjoy a game of petanque or tennis, or take a dip in the solar heated swimming pool. Should you wish to explore further a field, bicycles are available to explore the local wineries - there are over 65!
