Benguerra Lodge is a calm desert-island refuge where a mosaic of tropical forest, silver beaches, turquoise seas and coral reefs awaits just a few privileged guests. Dolphins are often seen in the bay and whales migrate along the coast between July and September.

Small and intimate, renowned for its genuine hospitality and personal service, Benguerra Lodge has 10 luxurious 'Casitas', all with their own private deck, dining gazebo and plunge pool, just a moment's walk from the gorgeous beach of Benguerra Bay. The accommodation is stylish with a bohemian design – think ‘East African chic meets beach simplicity’. Local screen-printed fabrics, faux bamboo furniture, sea shells and indigenous basketware blend together in a colourful interior and there are no telephones or televisions – you will be lulled to sleep by the lapping of the waves. Each Suite features an ensuite bathroom with an indulgent copper bath and both indoor and outdoor showers. Honeymooners and families seeking total seclusion will adore the two-bedroom villa, complete with personal chef and a private pool.

As befits its location, fresh fish and seafood are prime features on Benguerra’s tantalising menu. A beautiful swimming pool overlooks the ocean and there is also a fully equipped dive centre. Numerous activities are available including 4WD safaris on Benguerra Island, saltwater fly-fishing, snorkelling on the nearby pristine reefs, ‘castaway’ picnics on deserted beaches and peaceful dhow cruises.

Benguerra Lodge is accessed via a 10 minute air transfer from Vilanculos.
