Shanti Maurice

Located on the southern tip of the island, Shanti Maurice, one of The Leading Hotels of the World, embraces guests with the friendliest of service, offering a true paradise spread across a 36 acre landscape of fragrant tropical gardens. A boutique lifestyle resort located around a pristine horseshoe coral sand cove, Shanti Maurice prides itself on providing guests with a truly authentic experience – from the design of the property which blends Mauritian and African culture and style, to the array of local pursuits on offer, giving guests the chance to explore Southern Mauritius, or SOMA, as it is affectionately called by the locals.

The resort’s concierge is at hand to arrange local experiences such as swimming with dolphins at Tamarind Bay, touring the Bois Cheri Tea Factory – which has been making tea for over 100 years – or a leisurely lunch at Le Saint Aubin, a plantation house built in 1819 which has been converted into a restaurant serving classic Mauritian cuisine. Guests are also invited to take part in the ‘Grandma’s Kitchen’ experience, where they will enjoy a home cooked meal in the local home of the Grandmother of one of the resorts’ team members. Complete with pre-dinner cocktails and a meal around the table, guests are given a book of Grandma’s recipes so that the delicacies can be recreated in their own kitchens back at home.

SLEEP

The resort consists of 44 spacious oceanfront Junior Suites and 17 Luxury Villas, each complete with pool (and unique touches, including an easel and full set of paints and a telescope for stargazing).

EAT

Shanti Maurice’s Head Chef Willibald Reinbacher focuses on serving locally-sourced fresh fare throughout the resort’s restaurants. In addition to their indoor restaurant, Stars, with an open-air style from which to enjoy the view of the crystal clear Indian Ocean, the resort also offers a dining experience at the rustic beach-side Fish Shack. Serving fresh lobster, prawns and meats, accompanied by the freshest of salads, guests can enjoy a casual beachside experience. The Rum Shed is a truly Mauritian haunt - an authentic rum bar serving cocktails using rum from the local distillery and a selection of beers from the village brewery. Besides the usual bar snacks, Rum Shed now also serves a choice of street food the so called 'comfort food' for a more laid back dining option. Hidden spotlights shine on the ocean waves as the evening’s entertainment is provided by local Sega Dancers, swirling their colourful dresses atop the white sand.

PAMPER

For a truly indulgent experience, guests can while away the afternoon in the Nira Spa, a 75,000 sq. foot oasis surrounded by lily ponds and indigenous flower gardens. Comprising 25 treatments rooms, Nira Spa is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the Indian Ocean. Trained masseurs and spa therapists work alongside nutritionists, personal trainers and Ayurvedic Doctors to encourage optimum health and mental wellbeing, offering Ayurvedic and Africology treatments, the latter of which uses an ethically produced range of natural products utilising African botanicals.

PLAY

The resort’s Kids Club, Les Petits Dodos, offers a specially-designed kids area, complete with a toddler’s pool, games room, DVD’s, computers, play stations and Wii games. In addition, little ones can enjoy the Yoga for Kids programme which combines simple yoga movements and postures with breathing exercises to children’s imaginations and awareness of the surrounding beauty.
