Malaysia's East Coast is a world away from the popular West Coast. Quiet, unspoiled and relatively untouched, the coastline is interrupted only by the occasional traditional Malay fishing village.
Unlike the West Coast, the East Coast has its monsoon season from November to March and is at its best during the summer months of April to October.
The region's premier resort is the lovely Tanjong Jara, which is around a 45 minute drive from the airport at Kuala Terengganu.
Some travellers may also wish to explore the islands just off the East Coast, including the Perhentians, Redang and Tioman although accommodation options can be more limited here.
