Borneo Nature Lodge

Located on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, in Sukau, Borneo Nature Lodge is a simple eco-friendly resort with just 12 rooms. The Rooms are basic, however, have en-suite bathrooms, coffee making facilities and air-conditioning. Except for the air-conditioning all electricity is provided by solar power. The lodge restaurant gives guests the option of dining either indoors or al fresco to enjoy the lush jungle surroundings.

Most guests combine a visit to the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre with a 2 night safari at the lodge. Alternatively you could consider combining Borneo Nature Lodge with the Rainforest Lodge in the Danum Valley for a 4 night package.

A typical 3 day 2 night itinerary

Day 1:

On arrival in Sandakan you will be met by your guide and transferred to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Here you can observe man’s closest relative, the Orang Utan, being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat. A short walk through the rainforest along a wooden boardwalk will bring you to the Oran Utan, where you can witness them being fed, followed by a video. Continue on by road for 2.5 hour drive through countryside dotted with small villages to Borneo Nature Lodge. After checking in you will enjoy a late afternoon boat trip along Sabah’s longest river, Kinabatangan, for the opportunity to view wildlife and birds in the virgin mangrove and rainforest habitat. Keep your eyes out for primates such as the Proboscis Monkey in the treetops.

Day 2:

Early this morning you will take a cruise upriver to Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake for bird watching and wildlife spotting. Enjoy a short jungle walk (weather permitting) before returning to the lodge for breakfast. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the surrounding area or the nearby village. In the evening you will have another opportunity to take to the river.

Day 3:

Early this morning you will explore the Gomantong Caves, famous for its edible bird’s nests. Afterwards you will return to Sandakan town for lunch. After lunch you will visit a water village, central market and a Buddhist temple prior to transferring to the airport for your onward flight
