Tanjong Jara

Tanjong Jara is located on a secluded stretch of Malaysia’s East Coast, just over an hours drive from Kuala Terengganu. Designed to reflect the elegance of 17th century Malay palaces, this 98 room and 1 suite resort offers a luxurious sanctuary set in natural surroundings where guests can enjoy the legacy of Malaysian warmth and hospitality.

Furnished in local timber and traditional fabrics, each room enjoys a view of either the gardens or the South China Sea. Serambi rooms are situated on the ground floor of a double storey unit and overlook the gardens from a private terrace, whilst the upper floor Bumbung rooms enjoy views of the gardens and some with sea views (but do not have a terrace). Perfect for honeymooners, the 10 single storey semi-detached Anjung rooms are set on the beachfront and boast an outdoor sunken bath in a private courtyard.

Enjoy authentic Malaysian cuisine at Di Atas Sungei which sits above the river or local seafood at The Nelayan, overlooking the sea. Teratai Terrace, beside the swimming pool, offers private dining under the stars whilst romantic dinners on the beach, or on your private terrace can also be arranged.

Facilities include two swimming pools, two tennis courts, the award-winning Spa Village and cooking classes. Outside the resort, enjoy cycle tours to nearby fishing villages, trek through the jungle, join a river cruise or explore the reefs by diving or snorkelling off Tenggol Island – one of Asia’s best kept dive secrets (March to end October).
