Located on a secluded stretch of Malaysia’s quiet East Coast, Tanjong Jara provides a true chance to get away from it all and relax in luxurious and unmistakably Malay surroundings. The resort offers 99 rooms and blends aspects of wellness and environmental awareness into a welcoming and relaxing ambience. Serambi rooms are on the ground floor with a private terrace whilst Bumbung rooms are on the upper floor. Anjung rooms are stand alone bungalows located on the beach front. All rooms are spacious and elegantly appointed, with teak wood floors and fittings, large bathrooms and Malay fabrics. Food is a highlight of anyone’s stay at Tanjong Jara. The main restaurant focuses on Chinese, Malay and Thai food. Aiming to create a home-cooked atmosphere, they have a walking menu where the chef will come to your table and discuss what you’d like to eat directly with you. By contrast, the beachside restaurant offers exquisite seafood in a romantic setting. On Saturdays, local chefs set up individual stalls around the gardens, each specialising in a particular local dish. Guests can enjoy sampling many of the region’s dishes, in a unique street food style atmosphere. The resort’s award-winning Spa Village offers an excellent way to unwind and combines the very best of Malay, Balinese and Thai techniques. Before a massage, therapists will bathe you seven times using the traditional ‘mandi’ shower, to bring you good luck. As well as two swimming pools and a fitness room, the resort can also arrange a wide variety of activities including guided walks.
