As your overnight destination on the enjoyable two day Luang Say cruise, the Luang Say Lodge offers wonderful views, a certain rustic charm and delicious cuisine. Overlooking the Mekong itself, the Lodge consists of seventeen individual bungalows, constructed out of solid wood, with rattan and bamboo decorations. Bungalows are connected by a series of wooden walkways, lit by lanterns at night. Rooms are fan-cooled, since the mountain air in this part of the world is naturally temperate and all have private en-suite bathrooms with showers, Western style toilets and hot water. Best of all, the rooms have huge windows with shutters that can be fully opened, allowing you to enjoy the breathtaking sight of sunrise over the Mekong from the moment you open your eyes. Mosquito nets ensure suitable protection whilst you sleep. The restaurant and terrace also have superb views. Try your first Beer Lao at sunset from the terrace – it is one of Southeast Asia’s best beers! This will also be an excellent opportunity to taste some delicious Lao dishes, as this is likely to be your first evening in the country. Don’t miss the lodge’s delicious ‘laab’ or minced chicken (or pork) salad. Of course, no Lao meal is complete without sticky rice.
