Located within an exclusive concession in the Masai Mara, close to the border with the Serengeti, Cottar’s 1920’s Camp harks back to the original spirit and essence of ‘safari’ reminiscent of an era of romance, adventure and elegance. Synonymous with tradition, the Cottar family embarked on quality adventure safaris in East Africa in 1919. Today, more than 80 years later, Calvin and Louise Cottar continue this family legacy with the personal and attentive Cottar’s Safari Service, complemented by an enthusiastic team – in fact, you will enjoy the pleasure of your very own dedicated guide and private ‘tent’ butler. Cottar’s boasts eight traditional canvas tents, luxuriously furnished with safari antiques from the 20’s. Lace coverings adorn the four poster beds and a carefully positioned canopied verandah ensures absolute privacy. Each ensuite tent also comes with its own private dressing room and ensuite bathroom. Four family tents, each with two ensuite bedrooms, are also available. Cottar’s provides an exclusivity rarely found in the Mara. Here you will experience the ultimate in personalised service and guiding. The camp’s 1920's wooden-bodied ‘Out of Africa’-style hunting car is available for game drives, whilst in the evenings, you will relive the ambience of daysgone by with silver service dining by candlelight. When not on safari, lounge amongst plush carpets and pillows and read from the vast collection of literature in the finely appointed library tent. Cottar’s is accessible via twice daily scheduled flights from Nairobi and daily scheduled flights from Samburu and Nanyuki.
