Romantic hideaways, hurricane lamps & wildplaces
Day 1 Moremies On arrival in Johannesburg, connect with your onward flight to Maun and travel by light aircraft to Chief’s Camp (pictures 1-3), an acclaimed tented lodge situated on Chief's Island in the exclusive Mombo Concession of the Moremi Reserve. The camp comprises 12 luxurious ensuite bush pavilions with private viewing decks overlooking the floodplains and lagoons. Moremi's rich landscape, which also incorporates mopane woodland and acacia forests, makes it one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Africa. (L,D) Day 2 Moremi Known as ‘the predator capital of Africa', this area abounds with wild dog, lion, cheetah and leopard – but it is also renowned for its large numbers of plains game, elephants and buffalo. When not on a game drive, you can enjoy a quiet mokoro excursion along the Delta channels. (B,L,D) Days 3 & 4 Okavango Delta Today you will board a light aircraft for the 20-minute hop to Baines’ Camp (pictures 4-6), a small intimate camp of just five contemporary suites perched on elevated platforms. The camp is set amongst shady trees on the southern edge of the Okavango, overlooking a large perennial lagoon off the Boro River. Each suite has a wooden deck from where you can enjoy awe-inspiring views – and the unique four poster bed is 'fully mobile' – so that it can be rolled out onto your deck for nights under the stars! Poised between the game-rich plains of Moremi and the floodplains of the Delta, this area attracts a plethora of animal and bird species. Explore the vast terrain by land and water – with game drives continuing well after dark. The permanent water around the camp opens up a world of floating safaris – choose between the gentle pace of a poled mokoro, or coast upstream in a motorboat. Walking safaris are a speciality with expert guides introducing the area’s natural wonders on foot. A memorable highlight is the chance to walk and interact with a trio of semi-habituated elephants – and you even enjoy a picnic lunch in their company (additional cost). (B,L,D) Days 5 & 6 Chobe Today, board your air transfer to Chobe Chilwero Lodge (pictures 7-9) which enjoys a beautiful setting above the Chobe River overlooking the floodplains of Chobe National Park – famous for being home to Africa’s largest concentration of elephant and buffalo. Not surprisingly, Chilwero means 'place of high view' in the local language of Setswana. Your sanctuary is one of 15 air-conditioned stone and thatch cottages, all of which boast a large sunken bath, indoor and outdoor showers and a private garden with a hammock for relaxing and enjoying the views over the river. Game drives, sunset cruises and wondrous water safaris on specially adapted motorboats are all part of the experience – and fishing expeditions can be arranged at an extra cost. High tea is often served on the lawn in the shade of the trees and the afternoons are yours to relax by the pool or perhaps enjoy a massage or spa treatment in your cottage. (B,L,D) Days 7 & 8 Zambia Enjoy your last early morning game drive before joining your awaiting vehicle for the overland transfer across the border into Zambia where you will enjoy 2 nights at the unique Islands of Siankaba – an intimate retreat discreetly hidden amidst the tree canopy of these two densely forested sand islands in the Zambezi River, upstream from the renowned Victoria Falls. Mokoro excursions on the Zambezi and a trip to the mighty Falls are included in your stay. (B,L,D) Day 9 Johannesburg Transfer to Livingstone airport (approx 20 mins) for your flight back to Johannesburg where you will connect with your overnight flight to the UK. (B)
