Combining the highlights of these two beautiful countries with some iconic overland travel
Days 1 - 2 Hanoi On arrival in Hanoi, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Waking up refreshed the following day, begin with a tour of the Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum or the Museum of Ethnology. Day 3 Hue Fly down to the imperial city of Hue and explore the Citadel and imperial tombs. Visit the riverside Thien Mu pagoda before taking a boat ride on the evocative Perfume River. Days 4 - 6 Hoi An Head over the glorious Hai Van pass before reaching the old merchant town of Hoi An. Explore the Japanese covered bridges and tiny Chinese temples of the old town. Participate in a home workshop to make your own version of the coloured lanterns which light this town or enjoy a fun cooking class which reveals the secrets of the region’s unique and delicious cuisine. Day 7 Saigon Fly to Saigon and spend the afternoon exploring the harrowing War Remnants Museum and the French colonial architecture of Dong Khoi street. You may wish to learn more about the fascinating and ancient Oriental art of Feng Shui, with a demonstration in an historic Saigon home. Day 8 Can Tho This morning, leave Saigon early and head by road to Cai Be. Here, board your overnight boat, the Bassac, for a leisurely cruise along the Mekong River, into the heart of Vietnam’s fertile Delta region. Stop to explore local villages on foot and floating markets by small sampan boat. Day 9 Chau Doc On arrival in Can Tho, your driver and guide will meet you and you will continue your exploration of the area's cottage industries, tropical fruit orchards, rice paddies and waterways. Arrive at the Delta town of Chau Doc this evening. Days 10 - 11 Phnom Penh Leaving early this morning, you will cross the border into Cambodia and travel up to Phnom Penh by speedboat, arriving by lunch. The following day, you will explore the National Museum, Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. Days 12 - 14 Siem Reap Take a short flight across the Tonle Sap lake to Siem Reap, gateway to the magnificent Angkor complex. Spend your time here exploring the temple complex with your expert guide. Out of the many temples it is possible to visit, Angkor Wat is the most iconic but other highlights include the jungle temple of Ta Prohm, the Bayon with its giant stone faces and the walled city of Angkor Thom. Day 15 Onward Journey From Siem Reap, there is easy flight access to Bangkok and Singapore. Why not extend your stay with a few nights spent relaxing at a chic Thai beach escape?
