HOLIDAYS TO INDONESIA

With over 1300 different islands, Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago. Bali is certainly the chief draw - blessed with the history of ancient civilisations, a dramatic volcanic landscape and an abundance of beaches, it remains an evocative and enticing destination - perfect for exploring on a luxury Bali Holiday.

A holiday to Indonesia is definitely not a one-stop-shop, travelling around is a must, perhaps combining a stay on one of Bali’s fashionable southern beaches with the mist-clad jungles and rice-terraces of Ubud, a colourful hill village and popular artist enclave, a beautiful place to retreat for a few days. Add a few days in remote northern Bali, a trekkers paradise and dolphin lovers hot spot or eastern Bali, great for snorkelling and diving or over to neighbouring Lombok. Just 22 miles east of Bali is Lombok, known for its unspoilt beaches, emerald green interior and culture less touched by the hands of tourism. Direct flights from Singapore make Lombok the perfect twin-centre with a holiday to Bali.

WHY TURQUOISE HOLIDAYS LOVES INDONESIA

"Beautiful verdant countryside, dramatic volcanic landscapes, delicious cuisine and beautiful beaches create a perfect combination for a romantic holiday or honeymoon to Indonesia." - Rachel, Product Manager

THINGS TO DO IN INDONESIA

1.The artistic community of Ubud in Bali is a great place to begin your holiday to Indonesia. Recover from your long haul flights by retreating inland, to soak up the breathtaking mountainous jungle scenery of the Ayung River Valley in a gorgeous boutique hotel before heading to the beaches.

2. If it is chic restaurants, a hip yet relaxed nightlife and a range of fashionable boutiques that you require, then sophisticated Seminyak in the south of Bali is the destination of choice. Those who seek a more relaxed scene will enjoy the beaches of Jimbaran and Sanur, which are quieter, yet still have a range of restaurants and small shops and are two of the most picturesque beaches in Bali.

3. For the more solitary sand-seeker eastern Bali is a great alternative, the beaches are volcanic and often deserted and the snorkeling and diving is top notch. Go out fishing or head inland to the 8th century temple of Pura Besakih, the must visit on the ‘island of temples’.

4. Take on a side trip to Borobudur, the world biggest Buddhist monument complex on neighboring Java. Built around 800 AD, it looms out of a patchwork of bottle-green paddy fields and swaying palm tops, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. This colossal Buddhist relic is one of Indonesia’s marvels.

5. Take the 2 hour speedboat journey Bali’s to neighbouring Lombok for totally unspoilt beaches, peaceful culture and beautiful beachfront resorts. Lombok is far less developed and less expensive to Bali and the ideal base to embark on a snorkelling trip to the unspoilt Gili Islands.

Turquoise Recommend - Hotels in Indonesia

We have hand-picked a selection of properties where you will be treated as a guest rather than a visitor, ensuring that you really feel at home. Charming intimate and authentic – all are chosen for their unique characteristics. Many of Indonesia's best properties are not actually located on the beaches themselves. A number of our favourites enjoy secluded settings, a little off the beaten track but only a short drive from the ocean or tucked away in the jungle. Some come complete with butler service, private pools and sumptuous spas – The Samaya Seminyak, Alila Villas Soori, Uma UbudSpa Village and Nihiwatu are amongst our favourites but all are special and our experts will help you select the perfect retreat for you to create your luxury holiday in Bali and Indonesia.

Turquoise recommends – Bali Honeymoon

For many of us the perfect honeymoon starts with a glorious beach but many are looking for more and Bali offers just that. Here you can visit amazing temples, trek through jungles, picnic at waterfalls, visit traditional villages and immerse yourself in a jungle spa and still end your day watching the spectacular sun setting from a cool beach bar. Bali boasts a warm tropical climate and is at its best in the popular honeymoon months between May and October and the accommodation options top the romance stakes with private pool villas overlooking lush green valleys and boutique retreats hidden in the jungle behind remote beaches.

We would highly recommend a multi-centre honeymoon to Bali and Lombok with time spent in a hip coastal hangout in the south, a few days of jungle exploration in Ubud and an idyllic beach hideaway in the quieter north or east coast or over to Lombok. With the affordable cost of living, and breathtaking scenery, a honeymoon to Bali and Lombok has the perfect ingredients to create the most unforgettable trip of a lifetime.
