Located on a small plot of land in the very centre of Chiang Mai, the Manathai is just steps away from the shopping and restaurants of Thapae Road and near the famous Thapae Gate, one of the main entrances to Chiang Mai’s walled old town. Although newly built, this 29 room hotel has been carefully constructed using old wood to recreate the traditional feeling of Northern Thailand. With clusters of low-rise wooden buildings centred around a small courtyard and swimming pool, the atmosphere is intimate, welcoming and unquestionably Thai. The cosy rooms feature white walls, exposed wooden beams, dark wood furniture and stylish dark blue Lanna fabrics. Antique pictures and four poster beds complete the atmosphere of understated style. Every room has its own balcony or small terrace. Some rooms even have sloping ceilings which create a sense that guests are staying in a traditional old house. In room facilities include television, mini-bar and tea/coffee making facilities. Since this is a small hotel with only 29 rooms, facilities cannot match those of a luxury resort but the atmosphere of the hotel more than makes up for this. Boasting a small pool and poolside bar, as well as a Thai restaurant, the Manathai is a true boutique hotel and is a great place to stay.
