An atmospheric and tiny boutique hotel, the Bann Tazala is located a little way out of Chiang Mai and offers only eight rooms in gracious Thai style surroundings. A series of buildings connected by walkways and courtyards, this small property has real character and a warm ambience and is located around 10 minutes drive from Chiang Mai’s downtown. Each of the eight rooms is decorated differently. Whilst relatively small in size, rooms have a luxurious feel and boast all modern amenities including plasma screen televisions and DVD players. The décor of each room is a stylish blend of Lanna design, Chinese furnishings and chic antiques. Some rooms also have small terraces. There are two Deluxe rooms, one of which has a Jacuzzi and one of which has a balcony. The Junior Suite is a particular treat, including living room and leather sofas, a bedroom and dressing room, as well as an outdoor Jacuzzi in a marble tub and set against Burmese style metal artwork. The hotel has a small swimming pool as well as a library featuring internet service and DVD collection. The hotel is actually located across the road from the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi so guests can enjoy use of the restaurants etc at this opulent resort. Bann Tazala’s French restaurant is of particularly high quality and is a local favourite. With only a small number of tables and a reputation for excellent cuisine, this is a wonderful setting for a romantic meal.
