A legendary oasis in the heart of Stone Town, the Emerson & Green Hotel is a characterful hideaway with a captivating past. Once the residence of one of the richest men in the Swahili Empire, the hotel has been wonderfully restored to its former glory - and given its status as the second tallest building in Stone Town, it's not surprising that it boasts one of the most remarkable rooftop restaurants in the world. With a view that stretches over mosques, minarets, Hindu temples and church spires to the ocean beyond, the renowned Tower Top Restaurant is an integral part of the Zanzibar skyline and a definite ‘must’ for dinner - its extraordinary location is perfect for stargazing or watching the sun disappear into the ocean. A magnificent ten-room sanctuary, each traditional suite exudes a distinct Zanzibari style with local antiques and craftsmanship setting the scene for the most romantic of ‘Arabian Nights’. The large stone bathtubs are an integral feature, whilst ceiling fans along with the gentle sea breezes keep guests cool. Second and first floor rooms, as well as the South Room, are equipped with air conditioning for added comfort. Grand carved doors, original stucco décor, large Zanzibari beds and hand-painted glass lamps and window panes are just a few of the intricate details which enhance the true Zanzibari inspiration for each of these unique sultan-sized rooms. The six luxurious Suites are located in the hotel’s newer ‘Peace of Love’ wing – so-named, as it overlooks a small lively square by the same name. All boast a balcony, teahouse or verandah with spectacular views of Stone Town, the Indian Ocean – and on clear days, the coast of continental Africa!
