A 11/2 hour flight from Papeete, remote Manihi sits like ‘an atoll at the end of the world’ in the north Tuamotu archipelago. Best described as a string of islets with a magnificent lagoon fringed by coconut palms, Manihi was actually the site of the first pearl farm which paved the way for the other Tuamotu Islands. Today, Manihi has an international reputation for pearl production and it has steadily established itself as a principal centre for black pearls in the South Pacific. The lagoon’s amazing density of fish also attracts divers from around the world and thanks to the clarity of the water, the atoll’s ‘off the beaten track’ location and its modest size, Manihi offers excellent diving conditions for both experienced and beginner divers. This charming 41 bungalow retreat (the only international hotel on Manihi) was one of the first resorts to be built in the Tuamotus and its location is simply enchanting! There are 22 bungalows along the beachfront and 19 overwater bungalows which we highly recommend with direct access to the lagoon. The premium overwater bungalows also have a CD player. The resort has a dive centre, a massage faré on the beach, an open-air restaurant and a bar which nestles between the white sandy beach and the freshwater infinity swimming pool. Activities available include snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing, sunset cruises, visits to black pearl farms and picnics on a private motu where you can catch your own fish before cooking it in a Tahitian oven.
