In 1980, Africa’s widely respected Rattray family bought Fairview – a 68 acre headland at The Crags, between Plettenberg Bay and Nature’s Valley. Peter and Gillian built the most elegant farmhouse for their retirement and set about making a garden of some renown – and it was here that Gillian wrote two of her books. Recently taken over by Nicky Rattray and her late husband David, Fairview today offers your very own rural South African space to fully relax and unwind.

Named for its extraordinary outlook over forests and mountains, Fairview is only a 10-15 minute drive from Plettenberg Bay and Nature’s Valley. A beautiful ‘home-away-from-home’, Fairview House is a grand old homestead with lots of character. The fully-equipped farmhouse kitchen provides all you need for a memorable meal with friends or family – and on a warm summer’s evening, there’s simply no better place than the spacious verandah for enjoying alfresco dining. Fairview House (pictures 1-4) offers three charming bedrooms, with the master ensuite bedroom downstairs – and two further bedrooms upstairs which share a bathroom – making this an ideal option for families.

For a larger group of friends or family, the newly restored Fairview Cottage (picture 5), which is just a short stroll from the main house, offers an additional three bedrooms as well as a spacious living area.

Your privacy at Fairview is enhanced by the established gardens – and even the swimming pool is tucked away in the foliage.
