The Boathouse, Opua

Imagine sitting on your sundeck enjoying breakfast, the sea beneath you, a small yacht sailing past and the car ferry setting off. This is the scene at The Boathouse – the Bay of Islands’ only overwater accommodation. The property comprises two contemporary apartments, each meticulously designed with a nautical theme.

The Boathouse is located in Opua, a five minute drive from Paihia. This small township has its own school, a post office, an overwater restaurant, a modern marina, a large wharf, Yacht Club and the historic overwater Opua Store where you can find almost everything you need.

The apartments, aptly named ‘The Landing’ and ‘The Bridge’, are located right next to the Opua Car Ferry –so you can watch the hustle and bustle of Opua go by each day! Relaxing on your deck with a glass of New Zealand wine in hand, observing the daily ‘goings-on’ of this charming port is all part of The Boathouse experience!

Both apartments enjoy sweeping views over the Bay of Islands – and they can either be booked separately or the entire property can be booked for exclusive use. ‘The Landing’ (downstairs) has two double bedrooms (one can be split into two singles) whilst the upper level ‘Bridge’ has one double bedroom with a smaller room with a fold-down sofa-bed suitable for a child. Both offer a large open plan living and dining area with full entertainment system – and glass doors leading out to a large deck area with wooden furniture and a barbecue. The superbly appointed state-of-the-art kitchens offer top of the range appliances – but if you don’t fancy catering for yourself, a personal in-house chef can easily be arranged!
