It is not surprising that the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula is a favourite holiday escape for New Zealanders - with it’s pristine beaches, breathtaking native walks and abundant fishing spots. Whilst it is the peninsula’s east coast beaches and bays that are the most well-known, the township of Coromandel enjoys a historical background with the discovery of gold; a vibrant art community and fine restaurants and cafes.

The history of the township began back in 1852 with the discovery of gold in the Driving Creek stream. This discovery initiated the first gold rush in New Zealand and the formation of Coromandel township. Milling of the majestic kauri forests assisted with the growth of this community and the rest of the peninsula and the area offers some wonderful walks through coastal native forests. A ‘must’ on any visitor’s holiday to the township is the popular Driving Creek Railway, New Zealand’s only narrow gauge mountain railway featuring stunning views and unique art features in a replanted native Kauri forest.

The Driving Creek Villas are located in a private bush setting just a short walk from the Railway and five minutes drive from Coromandel town centre. Set in beautiful, peaceful surrounds beside the meandering stream where gold was first discovered, these two spacious fully self-contained boutique villas offer the perfect accommodation to relax and unwind. Purpose built to a high standard, Driving Creek Villas combine colourful pacific themes with modern colonial styling. Each villa has two bedrooms, with a master queen bedroom on the main level and a twin bedroom upstairs. A large open plan living room with fully fitted kitchen and dining area allows plenty of space to relax with beautiful wooden floors and bi-folding doors leading out to your own private garden. Enjoy a continental breakfast in your own private sunny garden and listen out for the captivating birdsong of Tui, Bellbird and Fantail.

Some of the Peninsula’s most beautiful beaches are a short drive away - choose from either safe quiet bays or spectacular surf and white sand. And there are several wildlife sanctuaries further north, managing and protecting rare and unique species.
