Located in what is widely regarded as the prime site within the Masai Mara Game Reserve, this family run camp is close to the confluence of the Mara and Talek Rivers – literally minutes away from the main Wildebeest crossing of the annual migration. Surrounded by the greatest diversity and concentration of wildlife in the world, Rekero offers some of the finest game viewing in Africa. Owned and hosted by Gerard and Rainee Beaton, together with partner Jackson Ole Looseyia, an Il Dorobo Maasai – the Rekero experience is all about sharing your hosts' incredible passion, knowledge and love for the African bush in one of the most remarkable locations in Kenya. The camp is set up seasonally to coincide with both the dry weather and the best game viewing – and comprises seven ensuite tents, each of which is spacious and airy with a comfortable double bed, flush toilet and a 'safari-bucket' shower. At night, the camp is lit by solar lamps and kerosene lanterns whilst appetising meals are often served alfresco under the African skies. Wildlife viewing and bird watching can be enjoyed on foot with experienced Il Dorobo and Maasai guides, or in custom-built 4WD vehicles. A cultural visit to the local Maasai community, with whom the Beatons have a close association, offers a rare and natural insight into tribal cultures. Surprise sundowners and lavish bush breakfasts with some of the best guides in Kenya, enliven the Rekero safari experience! Rekero is accessible via a daily scheduled or charter flight from Nairobi to Ol Kiombo airstrip followed by a 15 minute road transfer.
