Turquoise Honeymoon Study 2010 |
The Turquoise Holiday Company recently completed a survey of just over 1,000 people to find out more about how an engaged couple goes through the process of choosing a honeymoon. Our respondents were engaged and married couples who enquired for a honeymoon with us; the final pool was made up of those who responded to our email survey, whether or not they had in the end booked with us.
As a couple's honeymoon is arguably the most important holiday of their lives, a lot of time and thought goes into selecting the perfect holiday. To help you put together the ideal honeymoon, we have decided to publish our findings on how couples make their decisions on destinations, honeymoon types, and much more.
Whether you are reading to understand the process before you book your own honeymoon or to compare opinions with what you did when selecting yours, we hope you enjoy our findings. |

What were the most important factors when deciding on your honeymoon? |
| While couples may not choose their wedding month with their honeymoon in mind, it's clear that weather and budget are the biggest influences on choosing a honeymoon destination. This makes perfect sense to us, as most couples don't want to spend their honeymoon in the rain! While our clients do tend to have a budget, we find that many couples recognise that this is really the one special holiday of their life and take that into account when booking. They’re ready to splash out, but want to feel they’ve spent on the right aspects of the honeymoon. |
What budget did you set per person when looking to book your honeymoon? |
| As Turquoise's clients firmly lean towards luxury holidays, we weren't too surprised that our surveyed couples wound up spending more towards the high end of the scale. £3000 per person can buy you a nice honeymoon, though you’ll find those in search of true luxury are more prepared to spend the highest prices for newly wedded bliss. |
How long did you plan to go away for your honeymoon? |
| Again our results managed to fall perfectly in line with our own expectations. Couples in the UK do tend to spend around 2 weeks on honeymoon on average. A week is too short for a twin centre or island hopping honeymoon, while more than two weeks is a bit out of the ordinary for a working-age couple. |
Which destination did you choose to visit on your honeymoon? |
| From this particular graph, it's clear to us that what most couples want out of their honeymoon is sand and surf along with their luxury. Beach honeymoons are still the way to go for almost all engaged luxury seekers. |
When booking your honeymoon were the bride, the groom or both of you involved in the final decision? |
| Despite our advice otherwise, most brides end up choosing the honeymoon destination! We'd hoped for more joint decisions here, but it appears that in addition to the majority of the wedding planning, brides choose to be in charge of honeymoon planning as well. |
Finally, when booking your honeymoon, what factor most influenced your choice of travel agent? |
We were very interested in finding out just what inspired couples to choose the travel agents that they did. The primary factor in decisions is price. Honeymooners want that luxury but also want to feel their money has been well spent. The other main factors in choosing a travel agent involve the level of trust you have with the company and the quality of service you've experienced, both from enquiries and past holidays.
From our results, it's clear that many different factors play a role in choosing just where, when, and through which company your honeymoon will take place. Weather and budget play the biggest roles, with the bride in most cases making the decision on where to go. Whether couples go through a travel agent or not, they're clearly looking for a dream honeymoon of a lifetime, worth the money they’ve paid, with companies they can trust. |
