With an average of 350 days sunshine a year, the Turks & Caicos are
the perfect destination for sun-worshipping honeymooners. Considered to
be part of the Caribbean, this string of over forty low-lying islands
(of which only eight are inhabited) actually lies in the Atlantic Ocean
just south of the Bahamas. A destination for couples who value beaches
and sea over lush, mountainous landscapes, the islands are largely flat
and covered with scrub vegetation, although what the Turks & Caicos
lack in foliage, they make up for with idyllic white sand beaches and
crystal clear ocean.
Offering some of the most luxurious resorts
in the Caribbean, the Turks & Caicos are gilded destination
attracting celebrities, socialites and honeymooners who flock here for
the fabulous weather and laid-back way of life. Often thought of as ‘The
Hamptons’ of the Caribbean, the Turks & Caicos is an upscale
destination where great service and high style are key.
The
Caicos islands are where the majority of visitors head and honeymooners
can choose from world-famous private island retreats to exclusive
five-star hideaways, all offering romance, luxury and exclusivity.
Boasting a stunning 12-mile beach, the island of Providenciales is home
to the majority of the islands’ resorts, many of which lie along the
idyllic Grace Bay.
Around 300 square miles of the Turks &
Caicos are protected and the beaches here are truly spectacular. It is
however, what happens under the water that really defines the
destination. Something of a watery paradise, the Turks & Caicos are
thought by many to be one of the top diving destinations in the world,
popular with divers and snorkellers who flock here to see the world’s
third-largest coral reef and explore vertical undersea walls (the
continental shelf drops a mile deep), untouched coral and swim with sea
turtles, nurse sharks and tropical fish. Whether you plan to spend most
of your honeymoon relaxing on a white sand beach or under water, you
won’t be disappointed.
