Thailand's myriad beaches are one of her most famous attractions and have been deservedly popular with travellers for decades. These days, the renowned destinations of Phuket and Krabi boast some of the world's finest properties, whilst up and coming islands such as Koh Racha and Koh Yao delight those who prefer not to follow the crowds.
The beautiful Andaman Coast is home to some of Thailand's most well known and well loved beach destinations, including Phuket, the largest island and one of the most developed. In addition to large, luxurious resorts, Phuket also offers excellent facilities, including shopping centres, golf courses and nightlife. With a handful of new luxury boutique resorts opening in 2008, Phuket is once again emerging as a fashionable destination for those in the know.
Crossing to the mainland by bridge from Phuket, a scenic hour and a half drive takes you to the peaceful beach resort of Khao Lak. Whilst not quite as developed as Phuket, Khao Lak still offers beautiful scenery, lovely beaches and plenty to see and do. The picturesque Khao Sok National Park is not far away and offshore, the Similan Islands offer some of Thailand's best snorkelling and diving.
The mainland just North of Phuket includes the up and coming area of Phang Nga, where the Aleenta have just opened their newest and chicest property. Benefiting from easy access to and from Phuket airport, the Phang Nga region also offers absolute peace and seclusion.
In the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, just off the coast of Phuket, lie many smaller islands and karst limestone rock formations which make this area so unmistakably scenic. The small island of Koh Racha offers picture perfect beaches and a sleek, minimalist resort which is ideal for honeymooners. Other small islands such as Koh Yao offer anything from the latest luxury Evason Hideaway to small and secluded eco-resorts.
Further South lies the popular resort area of Krabi, again famed for its stunning limestone scenery and beautiful beaches. Whether you choose to stay in lively Ao Nang or escape to some of the smaller beaches, there is something for everyone here.
The nearby island of Koh Phi Phi is another popular destination. It is here you will find the classic turquoise waters, colourful fishing boats and white sand beaches. The best accommodation here is found in a small but unique boutique resort, the Zeavola.
Also accessed by boat from Krabi, the island of Koh Lanta is one of Thailand's most desirable destinations. Unspoiled yet picturesque, the island has much to offer. Why not enjoy it from your private pool villa at one of Thailand's best resorts?
Weather-wise, the Andaman Coast is best enjoyed from the months of November to April. The monsoon rains usually start to arrive in mid to late April and increase in frequency as the summer months go on.
