Enjoying one of Thailand’s most picturesque locations, the Anantara is set on a hill which overlooks Laos and Myanmar (Burma) in the area evocatively known as the Golden Triangle. Large and luxurious, the architecture and design of the Anantara immediately evoke Northern Thailand. From the pointed roofs capped with traditional ‘galae’ to the ornate wood carvings which decorate the reception area, you are undoubtedly in the Lanna kingdom. Characterised by tasteful Thai design, the Deluxe rooms are an excellent and supremely stylish choice. Each has a private balcony with a large day bed and the bathroom has a two person stone bath tub, with sliding glass doors which can be opened to reveal the stunning views across the surrounding countryside. Teak floors, Thai artefacts and rich fabrics complete the look. One of the Anantara’s highlights is the free form infinity swimming pool, which also enjoys great views of the Golden Triangle and the Mekong River. The resort also has a signature Spa for some excellent relaxation. Of the two restaurants, one serves Northern Thai cuisine with Lao and Burmese influences. The other serves fine Italian food and has an excellent wine cellar.
