A wonderfully well-kept secret located about 10kms from the main village of Avatoru, ‘Les Relais de Josephine’ offers charming guesthouse (pension) style accommodation, ideal for those looking for an intimate, family run retreat on Rangiroa. The property, managed by a French couple, is located on the ‘sea side’ of the Rangiroa atoll and overlooks the Tiputa Pass reef passage where dolphins play in the waves and you can watch the daily activities of the local fishermen as they enter into and out of the lagoon. Rangiroa’s beautiful beaches are on the ‘lagoon side’ of the atoll, just a 5-10 minute walk away. Les Relais de Josephine has just 6 bungalows (3 garden bungalows and 3 beach bungalows), all of which boast colonial style décor, a ceiling fan, dressing room, private bathroom and a terrace. You will enjoy fabulous cuisine at the pension’s Le Dauphin Gourmand Restaurant and breakfast and dinner are included in your stay. Breakfast is served on the terrace facing the shore. Les Relais de Josephine does not have a bar but when you fancy a drink, the overwater bar at Hotel Kia Ora is only a short stroll away. Scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, pearl farm visits and excursions to Rangiroa’s famous ‘Blue Lagoon’ (where a string of motu and coral reefs have formed a natural pool on the edge of the main reef, creating a lagoon within a lagoon) and the magnificent ‘Pink Sand Beach’ (whose sand contains various coral residues which glow with reflected pink light when the sun is shining) can all easily be arranged locally.
