Te Tiare Beach Resort, Huahine

Just a 35 minute flight from Tahiti, Huahine is Tahiti’s undiscovered ‘secret island’ – an unspoiled, wild and authentic island with deep green mountains, magnificent indented bays and beautiful white sand beaches. Huahine actually consists of two islands – Huahine Nui in the north and Huahine Iti in the south, linked by a narrow channel.

Tucked away in a small bay on Huahine Nui’s south west coast, Te Tiare (meaning ‘the flower’ in Tahitian) is a charming 41 bungalow retreat, accessible only by boat. All the bungalows face west, boasting wonderful views of not only Raiatea and Taha'a, but also Huahine’s spectacular tropical sunsets. The 16 overwater bungalows feature an ensuite spa bath and a spacious sundeck with direct access to the lagoon. There are also 19 garden bungalows and 6 beach bungalows. The restaurant and bar are built out over the lagoon, adding to the tranquil ambience which pervades this secluded resort. Other facilities include a swimming pool and a variety of watersports.

Whilst the accommodation is comfortable, a stay here is all about the opportunity to explore one of the least visited and geographically diverse of the Society Islands. Join a 4WD safari through the island’s interior, try one of the many hiking or horse riding trails or hire a bicycle. Huahine’s fertile landscape is dotted with vanilla, coffee, melon and taro plantations - and you will also discover mango, papaya and banana groves too. You may pass a local fisherman selling his ‘catch of the day’ on the roadside – and the main village of Fare is only 20 minutes away by boat.
