The Kruger & Surrounds

Mpumalanga is loved by many for its beauty and diversity. As the safari capital of the country, the major draw-card is the world-famous Kruger National Park, however, Mpumalanga has a lot more to offer than just the ‘big five’ - from exquisite panoramic views, to mountains, rivers, trout fishing and the rich offerings of the local Ndebele and Swazi cultures. One of the most scenic views in South Africa is undoubtedly offered up at the famous Blyde River Canyon – this colossal canyon is famous for its dramatic window on the world. Favourite attractions along the Panorama Route include, God’s Window ledge, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels – all of which offer breathtaking panoramas.

Established in 1898, Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience which ranks amongst the best in Africa. Truly the flagship of South African National Parks, its density of permanent game is unrivalled. Home to Africa’s ‘big five’ - buffalo, rhino, elephant, lion and leopard – the park offers superb game viewing all year round. In addition to numerous rest camps, most of the luxury safari lodges are situated in the private game reserves of the Sabi Sand, Thornybush and the Timbavati – all of which are situated along the Kruger’s western boundary.
