Open-plan lounges with blazing log fires, unique treetop suites and careful attention to detail set the scene at Jaci's for a wildly romantic safari! Nestled in a forest canopy, this unique African Tree Lodge is situated on the banks of the Marico River in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve. Drawing their inspiration from nature, owners and designers, Jaci and Jan van Heteren, have created a harmonious balance between the cosseting comfort of luxurious accommodation and the essential feeling of being at one with nature. Jaci’s Tree Lodge, voted in the Tatler Travel Guide 2003 as one of the ‘101 Best Hotels in the World’, consists of eight stylish Tree Houses, known for their ‘funky’ and imaginative design. Built of wood, canvas and thatch, each of the Tree Houses features huge glass doors which open out to allow the sounds of nature to penetrate your entire being. The décor is authentic – and proudly showcases the vibrant colours and unique crafts found in South Africa – with deep stone baths and blissful outdoor jungle showers completing the African ‘shabby chic’ ambience. Raised on stilts up to 6 metres above the ground, each Tree House embraces a giant Tambotie or Leadwood Tree, with wooden walkways linking them to the main lodge. Nearby, Jaci's Safari Lodge comprises a further eight suites with private wooden viewing decks which overlook a small stream – and all are punctuated by Jaci’s unique flair for interior design. The Nare Suite (picture 4) is an exclusive two bedroom bush retreat with a private pool, vehicle, guide and chef. Children of all ages are especially welcome – a unique ‘jungle drive’ and specialised children’s safari programme are provided – along with early evening meals for the 'little ones'.
