Situated deep in the heart of the forests of Mpumalanga (420kms east of Johannesburg and close to the private game reserves in the Sabi Sand), this former hunting lodge is an intimate and relaxing retreat surrounded by 300 acres of African paradise – timber plantations, mountains and meadows. The main lodge is a charming old farmhouse, steeped in 25 years of history, with a wide verandah where you can sip sundowners and gaze at the beautiful colours of the trees. The accommodation, which caters for a maximum of 28 guests, is provided in secluded cottages and suites clustered throughout the exquisite gardens, with enclosed patios which provide added privacy. The suites (one Courtyard Suite – and four thatched Paddock Suites) are all individually decorated and each has its own private heated pool, whilst the six Cottages (including four Luxury Cottages) are equally as spacious as the suites, with a bedroom and living area – and private secluded garden or courtyard. Underfloor heating, heated towel rails and outdoor/indoor showers now feature in all bathrooms. The latest addition to Cybele is the exclusive Forest Suite. Boasting 180 square metres of pure unadulterated luxury, it is – without a doubt – the finest example of lavish decadence. The look is modern and mellow with a kingsize bed, a large flat screen television with a home entertainment system (plus a selection of DVD's and CD's) not to mention the espresso and cappuccino machine – and the French Champagne in the mini-bar. Cybele has won worldwide acclaim for its superb cuisine prepared by experienced chefs and served in the candlelit, silver-laden dining room. Naturally, Cybele uses only the best and freshest ingredients from the organic vegetable garden and for those following a wellness programme, a selection of healthy menu options is also available. The best thing to do at Cybele is relax – and there’s no better place to do this than Cybele’s 'Forest Health Spa' where you can rejuvenate with a wide range of treatments which include massage, detoxification and anti-ageing. The Spa is Tuscan-styled and features a ‘his & hers’ treatment room, an indoor hydrotherapy bath, a large open-air granite jacuzzi, steam room and private high-pressure jet showers. The new gymnasium offers the latest state-of-the art equipment with personal trainers on-hand to design a programme especially for you. ‘Therapy’, another of Cybele's new additions, offers a diversion of a different kind – here you can enjoy a cup of coffee and slice of home-made cake while browsing through the interesting selection of local artefacts, accessories, books and magazines. Cybele also has a heated swimming pool – and if you are an outdoors enthusiast, the lodge offers a wide range of activities which include horse riding, fishing, walks through the beautiful countryside, ballooning and helicopter adventures.
