This tropical island paradise (one of the most remote and secluded of the Seychelles granite islands) spans three glorious square kilometres and rises 125 metres out of the Indian Ocean. Acclaimed for its outstanding natural beauty, Frégate’s giant granite boulders stand in majestic contrast to its seven awe-inspiring powdery white sand beaches. A member of the prestigious ‘Small Luxury Hotels of the World’ portfolio, the island is accessible via a 20 minute scenic helicopter flight from Mahé. The exquisite accommodation comprises sixteen luxurious villas, all uniquely designed and positioned so as to ensure unrivalled privacy and comfort with the most magnificent ocean views. Built from native mahogany, the villas blend harmoniously into the natural surroundings – and all boast a living room, separate bedroom, two bathrooms, an outside dining pavilion, oversized infinity pool with a jacuzzi and a day bed on the expansive terrace. Colonial elegance combines with state-of-the-art technology (the villas have internet access, satellite television and a CD/DVD player) to provide the ultimate island refuge. Naturally your private butler is on call 24 hours! Dining on Frégate is a wonderful journey of flavours and locations. Each evening, the historic Plantation House is transformed into a romantic restaurant serving traditional Creole dishes and island specialities. The alternative venue, Frégate House, offers a gourmet menu which features the Chef’s daily selection of local produce. You can also dine in the privacy of your villa, in the organic garden, on the beach or at the Pirates Bar at Anse Bambous. The island has its own source of freshwater and most of the fruit, vegetables, salads and herbs are home grown. Frégate’s unique and rare flora and fauna is a haven for nature and wildlife lovers. A total of 14 bird species are resident and breeding on the island – and Frégate is also home to a wild herd of 600 friendly Aldabra Giant Tortoises, one of only three wild-roaming populations left in the Seychelles. The endangered Hawksbill Turtle and Green Turtle are also frequent visitors. Frégate’s only native mammal is the ‘Flying Fox’ which survives solely on fruit found in abundance in the island’s lush forests. Children are very welcome. Families will love the spacious two bedroom villas – and the Castaway Club (for children aged 5 - 12 years) offers an imaginative programme specifically designed to educate the little ones about the surrounding rich natural environment. The Yacht Club, Marina and PADI Dive Centre provide a wealth of activities between them including windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling, diving, fishing, sunset cruises and trips to neighbouring remote islands – and after an exhilarating day’s exploring, you can retreat to the Rock Spa – a haven of serenity perched on a clifftop plateau overlooking the sea, where all the treatments are based on locally grown natural oils and ingredients.
